Hi kind readers, Cindy Cooper here. When my husband and I moved back to Portland after starting our company, Speak Shop, we were starving to meet with other entrepreneurs. And Starve Ups delivered. Literally: We got a jar of peanut butter when we joined.

Starve Ups is a phenomenal peer-to-peer entrepreneurship mentoring group right here in Portland. Membership is limited to 22 companies, so this is your chance to get your application in!  Deadline: November 4th.

Here’s their announcement:
Starve Ups ( http://www.starveups.com) is currently welcoming local start-ups to apply for membership in the group. There are a limited number of slots opening up this fall and we are inviting companies who are interested in membership to apply. If your company or a company you know would benefit from the group, please refer to the application process below.

What is Starve Ups?

Starve Ups is a Portland-based group created by entrepreneurs exclusively for entrepreneurs. Founded in 2000, Starve Ups has an amazing track record of success, with an 85% survival rate after 5 years and a 9% acquisition rate among its membership companies. The cornerstone of the group is peer mentoring and the purpose is to get each membership company to: 1) survive the first 18 to 36 months, 2) thrive into profitability and expansion, and 3) strive for their positive exit or existence strategy. Starve Ups hosts 25+ free events each year, and many are open to the public. The group’s member-only events are key, as is the cap on number of membership companies, as the group’s success is largely dependent on sharing detailed information among members – with the benefit of complete confidentiality, trust, and knowledge that every company in the group supports every other company as if it were their own.

There is no cost to join Starve Ups and no cost to attend a Starve Ups event – all Starve Ups events are funded by our generous sponsors.

Application Process:

Please fill out the online application at http://www.starveups.com/application no later than Friday, November 4th. This deadline and all requirements specified on the application must be met to be considered for membership.

Applications will be reviewed and selected companies will be invited to present at scheduled interview slots the evenings of Wednesday, November 16th and Thursday, November 17th.

All companies will be contacted within a week of the interviews with the final selections for Starve Ups new members.
